The Eclipse Zip Hooded Top has become one of our most well-known designer pieces, a specialist, uncompromising layer worn by climbers and mountaineers around the world. For the majority of our climbing team, it is a constant in their clothing system for cold and difficult routes, where each item must perform exactly as required to earn its place.

The most obvious feature is the hood and collar design, which was developed to allow all the separate protective elements to be worn individually or together in the worst conditions. The hood or face cover can be worn alone comfortably, and more importantly, the face protection can be lowered without unbuckling the helmet strap before a difficult situation. With the hood and collar up, the need for a balaclava is replaced and the need to wear a neck gaiter is reduced. The offset front zipper ensures a comfortable fit around the face.

While it works wonderfully over a thin base layer, it works especially well next to the skin on cold climbing days where moisture management is critical to comfort. The Italian-made, mesh-lined PontetortoⓇ Tecnostretch 187 fabric is the best of its kind. With excellent warmth for its minimal weight and, importantly, a quick drying time, it is also durable enough to be hand-washed regularly at base camps on long expeditions. A longer cut tucks in to prevent cold spots, and extended cuffs with thumb loops protect your wrists—a vital part of keeping your hands warm.
