Climbing spikes, such as the Universal 10 cm from Climbing Technology, are still relevant in demanding alpine terrain. Made of hardened steel, this nail is perfect for hard rock like granite. Although it does not conform to rock like soft steel nails, it is easier to extract and reuse.
Its 45 offset head design generates torque when loaded, providing a secure grip in both vertical and horizontal crevices. Importantly, the 10cm and 12cm versions are classified by the UIAA as 'Type P' progression nails, and should not be used for securing. Only the 15cm version has the 'Type S' rating to secure.
Characteristics:
- Hardened steel for durability.
- 45 offset head design for a secure grip.
- Ideal for vertical and horizontal cracks in hard rock.
- Easy to remove and reuse.
- UIAA Classification: Type P (progression).
